The Culture & Sensitivity – Urine test is a microbiological test that identifies bacteria or microorganisms causing urinary tract infections (UTIs) and determines the most effective antibiotics for treatment. A urine sample is cultured to promote bacterial growth, and the isolated organisms are then tested against various antibiotics to check their sensitivity or resistance. This test helps ensure accurate diagnosis and effective treatment of UTIs. see more

The Culture & Sensitivity – Urine test is a laboratory test used to detect and identify bacteria or other microorganisms causing a urinary tract infection (UTI). A urine sample is cultured under controlled conditions to allow any bacteria present to grow. Once the organisms are identified, a sensitivity test is performed to determine which antibiotics are most effective in treating the infection. This test helps doctors choose the right antibiotic therapy, prevent recurrent infections, and monitor treatment effectiveness. It is typically performed using the Urine Culture (Aerobic Method) and reported with the type of organism isolated and its antibiotic susceptibility pattern (Sensitive, Intermediate, or Resistant). read more

Frequently Asked Questions
Common microorganisms that may cause a UTI are Escherichia coli (E.coli), Klebsiella spp., Proteus spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus spp., Acinetobacter spp., Staphylococcus saprophyticus, and Candida spp. Sometimes a person may also get UTI due to less common organisms like Enterobacter spp, Providencia spp, Citrobacter spp, etc.
A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection that affects any part of the urinary system, which includes the kidneys, bladder, ureters, and urethra. Most infections involve the lower urinary tract — the bladder and the urethra.
Sensitive means the microorganism present in the urine can't grow in the presence of a particular antibiotic or the antibiotic is effective against that microorganism. Resistant means the microorganism can grow even if the antibiotic is present. This is a sign of an ineffective antibiotic. Your doctor may not prescribe this antibiotic in such a case.
